The Microfluidics & Soft-Robotics Laboratory has been engaged in the design and manufacture of new miniaturized medical instruments, innovative real-time diagnostic devices and microfluidic soft biomimetic robots, as well as the research of basic scientific issues relating to precision machining/microfabrication, micromanipulation and precision detection. For the early diagnosis of major diseases such as cancer, we have developed a microfluidic instrument with our own intellectual property rights that can realize high-throughput, label-free sorting and detection of rare circulating tumor cells in the blood. With its excellent performance, our instrument has effectively overcome the limitations of the Gold Standard—immunobiochemical technology, such as low efficiency, applicable to single cancer type and high detection cost. Based on the above research, we have published more than 100 high-quality SCI papers in well-known journals, applied more than 100 intellectual property rights. Our research work has been widely acknowledged by well-known scholars from institutions such as Harvard University and MIT, and has won the support of more than ten national scientific research projects such as the Special Fund for Research on National Major Research Instruments. The work has also received important awards, including the First Prize of Natural Science Award by Ministry of Education of China and the National Grand Prize of the Challenge Cup. We have trained a group of high-quality professionals, one of whom has won the excellent doctoral dissertation of Jiangsu Province, and three of whom have won the excellent master dissertation of Jiangsu Province.
